Griswold Historically And Today

The town of Griswold remains primarily undeveloped, but its few developed areas feature beautiful traditional homes on scenic hills among rolling open spaces. Residents enjoy a perfectly situated community within a short drive of shopping and entertainment facilities in nearby communities. Griswold's landscape is graced by verdant hills, rolling rivers, sparkling lakes, dairy farms and Christmas tree farms. The two main rivers that run through town are the Pachaug and Quinebaug. The borough of Jewett City sits directly at the juncture of the two rivers. The town's largest body of water, Pachaug Pond, has a state boat launch, marina and campground. Within the town limits there are two state forests, Pachaug State Forest and Hopeville State Forest, which also offers camping, a beach and boat launch. The local school system provides a solid academic program for young residents. Local recreational opportunities include organized team sports, swimming, fishing and camping.
